Abbott Road, Curl Curl

The design was the clients’. The build was ours to shape.

Abbott Road began as a flat lawn edged with timber sleepers: green, tidy, and largely unused beyond the covered terrace. The clients arrived with a Mediterranean-inspired design and gave us the freedom to bring our own thinking to it.

Three elements carry the garden. An arbour, milled from second-hand Blackbutt trunks and built to cantilever, will weather to a soft silver as Bougainvillea climbs it. A sunken seating area, framed by curved white rendered walls, wraps a firepit made for gathering year-round. And an off-form concrete BBQ gives the space a proper place to cook.

A lawn they looked at became a garden they live in. That’s what we built.
